Our first port of call was Alaska's Capital, Juneau. As we disembarked, we were accosted by a man in an eagle suit (part of the cruise photography staff) with whom we were obliged to take a picture.
In Juneau we went on a Whale Watching by Jet Boat excursion. We saw plenty of humpback whales, including one mother whale with her calf which we were told is not a common site. On the bus ride back to the ship, we stopped at the Chapel on the Lake where we were able to view the Mendenhall Glacier.
The one question we've been asked about our trip is, "Did you hear about the cruise that ran aground?" Yes, we did. As our jet boat returned from whale watching, we saw it moored to a pier awaiting repairs.
